Introduction

The Science and Technology (S&T) Division is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the national S&T policy. The Division also serves as the secretariat to the National Council for Scientific Research and Development (NCSRD). Its main role is to help strengthen the nation's technological base through enhancement of R&D activities, science promotion and formulation of a comprehensive action plan for technological development.

Objectives

The objectives of the Science and Technology Division are:

To encourage R&D activities in areas which have potential for enchancing the national socio-economic position.

bullet

To strengthen the institutional and support infrastructure for industrial technological development.

bullet

To promote S&T awareness by providing a conducive climate for invention, innovation and technological advancement.

bullet

To enhance market-driven R&D to adapt and improve technologies.

bullet

To develop and increase a pool of skilled manpower in S&T.

Strategies

The strategies to achieve the above objectives are:

Funding R&D project in critical technology areas of industrial relevance.

bullet

Developing and increasing a pool of skilled manpower in S&T to meet the national need by the year 2020.

bullet

Encouraging more private sector and NGO participation in S&T promotion.
