Multimedia Super Corridor Research & Development Grant Scheme (MGS)

INTRODUCTION

Malaysia’s Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) offers an extremely competitive package of financial incentives to MSC-Status companies. An essential component of this incentive package called MGS, is the availability of R&D grants to qualifying companies.

The scheme is designed to help local companies or joint ventures developing relevant multimedia technologies and applications which would contribute to the overall development of MSC.

The Multimedia Super Corridor Research and Development Grant Scheme (MGS) is designed to help innovate local companies or joint ventures developing relevant multimedia technologies and applications which would contribute to the overall development of MSC.

Goals of MGS

The goals of this scheme are:

bulletTo encourage research and development in multimedia products and services, as well as their innovative use in the MSC.
bulletTo stimulate R&D collaboration between international companies with leading-edge technology and local companies, especially SMEs. The ultimate aim is for these joint ventures to become competitive world-class companies.
bulletTo support the development of Malaysian knowledge workers and improvements in productivity.
bulletTo commercialise research and development results.

FORM OF ASSISTANCE

bulletFunding
bulletThe MGS will provide a grant of up to 70% of the total project cost. The amount of the grant approved will be determined by the merits of each case.
bulletRepayment is not required.
bulletDisbursement Guideline
bulletEach project is funded for up to 2 years.
bulletFunding is only for project-related costs.
bulletAn advance will be considered for initial set-up costs, including capital expenditure.
bulletPayments will be on a reimbursable basis.
bulletDisbursements are given on a quarterly basis upon receipt of the project progress report and certified statement of accounts.
bulletIn situations where the project funding period needs to be extended, notification and justification has to be submitted 6 months prior to the end of the project.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

bulletMSC-Status Company – the applicant must already have MSC status accreditation.
bulletOwnership – the applicant must be at least 51 percent Malaysian-owned.

HOW TO APPLY

Applicants are requested to use the MGS Application Template in submitting their applications.

All information specified in the MGS Application Template must be completed.

Applicants are required to submit the following to the MGS Unit at MDC:

bullet7 hard copies and one soft copy of the MGS application
bullet7 copies of the company's most recent annual report and audited financial statement.

All applications submitted must follow the Application Template format, printed, completed and directed to:
