Technology Acquisition Fund For Women (TAF-W)

INTRODUCTION

The Technology Acquisition Fund for Women (TAF-W) will allow greater financing access to finance women entrepreneurs. TAF-W provides partial grants to further promote efforts by women entrepreneurs to enhance their technology level and production processes.

The objectives of TAF-W are :

To integrate more women-owned companies into the mainstream of manufacturing;

bullet

To upgrade the technological capabilities, technical skills and expertise of women-owned companies; and

bulletTo enhance the competitiveness levels of women-owned companies

FORM OF ASSISTANCE

1. ACQUISITION OF TECHNOLOGY

A. TECHNOLOGY LICENSING

Objective

To enhance the design and production of new and existing products and processes. The technology to be acquired should include design, blueprints, manufacturing know-how, training, technical support and proprietary equipment.

Form of Funding

Partial grant up to a maximum of 70% or RM 1 million whichever is lower.

Approved Activities

Procurement of technologies through licensing by companies that are involved in promoted activities listed below:

List of promoted activities/products/processes which are eligible for consideration of Technology Acquisition Fund (TAF);

bullet

List of promoted activities and products for SMI companies; and

bulletStrategic industries as approved by the Government.
Eligible Expenses

Procurement of technologies through licensing and to include the breakdown of the following:

bullet

Design;

bullet

Blueprints;

bulletManufacturing Know-how;
bullet

Training;

bullet

Technical Support; and

bulletProprietary Equipment.

Note: The cost of the equipment must not be more than 30% of the licensing cost.

B. ACQUISITION OF PATENT RIGHTS, PROTOTYPES AND DESIGN

Objective

To facilitate transfer of technology to enable the development of new processes and products. All acquisition must include manufacturing rights from technology provider for manufacturing purposes.

Form of Funding

Partial grant up to a maximum of 70% or RM 1million whichever is lower.

Approved Activities

Acquisition of Patent Rights, Prototypes and Design by companies that are involved in promoted activities listed below:

List of promoted activities/products/processes which are eligible for consideration of Technology Acquisition Fund (TAF);

bullet

List of promoted activities and products for SMI companies; and

bulletStrategic industries as approved by the Government.
Eligible Expenses
bullet

Cost of procuring patent; and/or

bullet

Cost of procuring registered design; and/or

bulletCost of procuring prototypes.


C. PURCHASE OF HIGH TECH EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY

Objective

The objective of technology acquisition through purchase of high tech equipment and machinery is to enhance the current production processes and the physical development of new products.

Form of Funding

Partial grant up to a maximum of 50% or RM 1 million of the total cost of machinery or equipment to be purchased whichever is lower.

Eligible Expenses

Cost of machinery

2. TRAINING PROGRAMME (OVERSEAS)

A. PLACEMENT OF MALAYSIANS IN TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES OR TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTES

Objective

To expose Malaysians and upgrade their knowledge on technology development in foreign technology companies or institutes excluding affiliated or subsidiary companies overseas.

Approved Activities

Placement should be on the basis of job attachment or on-the job training.

Form of Funding

Partial grant up to a maximum of 50% of the total cost or RM30,000, whichever is lower for each person; and

bulletMaximum of 3 persons eligible for funding per project.
Duration

Duration of placement should not exceed 3 months.

Eligible Expenses
bullet

Cost of airfare;

bullet

Accommodation; and

bulletDaily allowance.

B. FOREIGN EXPERT SOURCING PROGRAM

Objective

To assist companies to engage foreign technical experts and consultants in upgrading their products and processes.

Form of Funding

Partial grant up to a maximum of 50% of the total cost or RM30,000 whichever is lower.

Eligible Expenses

Cost of airfare;

bullet

Local accommodation; and

bulletProfessional fees.

3. OTHERS

BUSINESS RELOCATIONS

Objective

For relocation of business operations to Technology Parks, Incubation Centres or the Multimedia Super Coridor.

Form of Funding

Partial grant up to a maximum of 50% of the total rental for the first two years.

Duration

Duration of activity should not exceed 2 years.

Eligible Expenses

Rental only.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

bullet

Company incorporated under the Companies Act 1965.

bullet

Company involved in the manufacturing activities and manufacturing related services.

bullet

At least 60% of the equity must be held by Malaysians, of which not more than 25% held by large companies.

bullet

Public listed companies or their subsidiaries are not eligible to apply.

bulletFor a 60% Malaysian owned company:
bullet

A minimum of 51% of the local equity must be held by a woman/women and the company is run and managed by a woman; or

bulletThe MD/CEO must be a woman and she must hold a minimum equity of 10% in the company.
bulletFor a 100% owned Malaysian company:
bullet

A minimum of 51% of the equity must be held by a woman/women; or

bulletIn the case where the majority equity is not held by a woman/women;
bullet

The largest single shareholder must be a woman and the company is run and managed by a woman; or

bulletThe MD/CEO is a woman and has a minimum equity of 10% in the company.
